There is an X-ray machine at our doors. We want it gone.
- It produces ionizing radiation.
- It was installed without notice to students or families.
- No one has been shown an inspection record.
- There is no route into the building that avoids it.
Federal rules cap emissions from these cabinets at 0.5 milliroentgen per hour measured five centimeters from the surface — 21 CFR 1020.40. The limit is not zero, and the FDA's stated purpose for it is protecting people from unnecessary exposure. We are not claiming anyone here has been harmed. We are applying the standard principle of radiation protection — keep exposure as low as reasonably achievable — and pointing out that a second doorway is very reasonably achievable.
WHAT WE ARE ASKING
- Remove the machine from the student entrance.
- Until then, open a route into the building that does not pass it.
- Name it. Make, model, and manufacturer.
- Show the state registration and the inspection records.
